The Mediation Mechanism for Flood-Induced Rice Blast Field Resistance

چکیده

Rice blast, an erratic niche disease incited by Magnaporthe grisea Cav., frequently limits rough rice yields and grower cultivar options in Arkansas rice production areas. Scientists poorly understand why some blast-susceptible varieties such as ‘Newbonnet’, ‘LaGrue’, ‘Mars’, and ‘Cypress’ become increasingly more blast resistant if grown in continuously flooded soil. A greenhouse depth-of-flood test duplicated this field resistance response and identifies dissolved oxygen as a primary variable in induced rice blast resistance. A solution culture experiment confirmed oxygen aeration has dominant influence on rice blast resistance, separate from influences of nitrogen form and rate. The relative value of flood-induced blast resistance has been demonstrated by the fact that, without fully understanding the scientific principles involved, Arkansas rice specialists and growers have utilized flood-induced blast field resistance as their primary control measure. During the blast-conducive years 2000 to 2003, growers have produced record rough rice yields growing hig-yielding but blastsusceptible cultivars ‘Wells’, LaGrue, and ‘Francis.’

Flood Depth and Ethylene Interaction in Flood-Induced Rice Blast Field Resistance

Rice blast, caused by Magnaporthe grisea Cav., frequently limits rough rice yields and cultivar options in Arkansas rice production areas. Rice growers and researchers have long observed that susceptible rice plants are more blast resistant when growing in moisture saturated or flooded soil. In fact, Arkansas growers utilized flood-induced field resistance as their primary blast control measure...

Genetic and Molecular Dissection of Blast Resistance in Rice Using RFLP, Simple Sequence Repeats and Defense-Related Candidate Gene Markers

Blast, Pyricularia grisea (Cooke) Sacc., is one of the most destructive diseases of rice worldwide and canresult in significant reductions in yield. The use of resistant cultivars is the most economical and effectiveway of controlling rice blast. A variety of DNA markers, including plant defense-related candidategene markers are available for genetic characterization and molec...

Probenazole-induced accumulation of salicylic acid confers resistance to Magnaporthe grisea in adult rice plants.

Probenazole (PBZ) is the active ingredient of Oryzemate, an agrochemical which is used for the protection of rice plants from Magnaporthe grisea (blast fungus). While PBZ was reported to function upstream of salicylic acid (SA) in Arabidopsis, little is known about the mechanism of PBZ-induced resistance in rice. The role of SA in blast fungus resistance is also unclear. The recommended applica...

Molecular mechanism of Pb1-mediated panicle blast resistance in rice

Background In Japan, an average of 22 billion yen is spent annually for agrochemicals in order to control rice damage caused by the blast disease. Thus, blast resistance is one of the most important targets of rice breeding. Several blast resistance genes have been identified so far. However, many of them are effective against particular races of blast fungi only and the resistance against the ...

Evaluation of Rice Promising Lines for Resistance to Striped Stem Borer in Field Conditions

In this study, the mechanism of resistance to striped stem borer was investigated in 10 rice genotypes and at different levels of nitrogen fertilizer. In addition, the relationship between some quantitative and qualitative traits of rice genotypes was evaluated with the resistance to striped stem borer. This experiment was conducted as split plot based on randomized complete block design with...
